Keeping You Connected to Your Child’s Learning Journey
At Lakera Early Years Nursery, we believe that your involvement in your child’s early years is incredibly important. We want parents and nursery practitioners to work together, sharing information and celebrating your child’s learning and development.
We use a digital early years learning journal and child development system to help us record and share your child’s learning journey with you.
Your Child’s Learning Journal
Throughout your child’s time at Lakera, our practitioners observe them as they:
- Play
- Explore
- Communicate
- Build relationships
- Try new experiences
- Develop new skills
- Become more independent
Relevant observations can be recorded and may include written observations, photographs, videos and audio recordings. These observations help us build a picture of your child’s individual development and learning journey.
Tracking Your Child’s Development
We use children’s observations and assessments to help us understand their progress and identify appropriate developmental next steps.
We can create learning plans and developmental reports to support our understanding of each child’s development.
At Lakera, we recognise that every child is unique and develops at their own pace.
Our observations and assessments help us understand:
- What your child can do
- What they are interested in
- What they are learning
- Their strengths
- Areas where they may need additional support
- Appropriate next steps in their development
We do not compare children against each other.
Our aim is to understand where your child is now, what they are ready to learn next and how we can support them.
Your Parent Access
Once your child joins Lakera and parent access has been provided, you will be able to access the information that the nursery shares with you through our parent app and online portal.
Depending on the information shared by Lakera, this may include:
- Learning observations
- Photographs and other shared media
- Reports
- Daily diary information
- Relevant records shared by the nursery
This gives you a convenient way to see and engage with aspects of your child’s nursery experience.
Keeping You Updated About Your Child’s Day
Our digital daily diary allows nursery staff to record information about your child’s day.
Depending on what Lakera records and shares, this can include information such as:
- Meals
- Sleep
- Nappies
- Bottles
- Toilet training
- Sun cream
Parents can access the information shared through the parent app or online portal.
This can be particularly useful for our younger children in the Lavender Room, where information about feeding, sleep and personal care forms an important part of the child’s daily routine.
Bringing Home and Nursery Together
Your child’s learning doesn’t stop when they leave the nursery.
Our parent platform allows you to contribute to your child’s learning journey. Parents can share home observations, comments, photographs and information about their child’s experiences, helping us understand what their child is doing, learning and enjoying at home.
For example, you might share something your child has achieved at home, a new interest they have developed or an experience they have enjoyed.
This helps us build a fuller picture of your child and supports continuity between home and nursery.
Communicating With Lakera
Our digital parent platform also provides a way for the nursery to share appropriate messages and communications with parents.
This gives families another convenient way to stay connected with Lakera.
However, digital communication does not replace direct communication with our nursery team.
If you have an important concern, something urgent to discuss, or simply want to talk about your child’s wellbeing or development, we encourage you to speak directly with your child’s key person or another member of the Lakera team.
Reports & Your Child’s Progress
Our digital system supports us in creating information about children’s development, including developmental and transition reports.
It can also support learning plans and the identification of developmental next steps.
Our practitioners use their professional knowledge and judgement alongside their observations and assessments.
We do not use the system simply to collect photographs or tick boxes.
We use the information gathered to help us understand each child and consider how we can provide meaningful experiences that support their development.
For our youngest children, our digital learning journal can help us record important parts of their early development and daily experiences.
This may include observations relating to:
- Communication
- Physical development
- Relationships
- Exploration
- Sensory experiences
- Feeding
- Sleep
- Personal care
- Emerging interests
- New skills and achievements
Parents can also share information from home, helping us understand your baby’s routines, interests and development.

For our toddlers, our digital learning journal can help us document their growing independence and development.

Parents can contribute observations and comments from home, helping us understand what their child is interested in and developing.
For our Pre-School children, our digital learning journal can help us record their continued development as they become increasingly confident and independent.
Observations may contribute to our understanding of development across the EYFS, including:

The system can also support learning plans and transition reporting as children prepare for their next stage of education.

Our digital system gives us another way to work together by allowing the nursery to share learning and development information and giving parents opportunities to contribute from home. This helps create a stronger connection between your child’s experiences at home and at Lakera.
Your Child’s Information
We understand that the information recorded about your child is important and personal.
Our digital system is used as part of our processes for recording and sharing appropriate information about children’s learning and development.
Parents will only have access to the information made available to them through their parent access.
Our use of digital systems operates alongside Lakera Early Years Nursery’s policies and procedures regarding confidentiality, information sharing and data protection.

From their first experiences in our Lavender Room, through their developing independence in Acacia Room, to their preparation for school in Katsura Room, we want you to be part of your child’s journey. Our digital learning journal helps us capture moments of learning, development and achievement and provides another way for home and nursery to stay connected.
